Rob Lane
One of
the most versatile and in demand composers working today, Rob has
won no less than six major awards for his work and received nominations
for a further eight. Three Ivor Novellos,
a BAFTA and two RTS
Awards have confirmed his ability to write distinctive
music for any genre, whether psychological thriller or quirky comedy,
action-adventure or political docu-drama. Equally at home writing
for orchestra or working with samples, his aim is always to create
boldly cinematic music that intimately supports and enhances the
drama on-screen.
Rob’s
recent film credits include the Warner Bros comedy, Mrs
Ratcliffe's Revolution, directed by Bille Eltringham;
The Lives of the Saints, directed by Rankin and Chris
Cottam, the South African thriller Red Dust, starring
Hilary Swank, and two documentary features: Nick Broomfield’s Aileen:
The Life & Death of a Serial Killer and Game Over:
Kasparov & The Machine directed by Vikram
Jayanti. He also scored Deathwatch, the horror film
starring Jamie Bell and The Escapist for Sky Pictures,
directed by Gillies MacKinnon and The Young Poisoner's
Handbook for British Screen.
In autumn 2007,
Rob travelled to LA to score HBO mini-series John Adams,
which charts the life of the second President of the United States
during the American War Of Independence. Paul Giamatti takes the
title role and the project is co-produced by Tom Hanks and Playtone
Pictures. The series has just aired in the US to great ratings and
much critical acclaim. The relationship with HBO has begun with
Elizabeth I, starring Helen Mirren and
Jeremy Irons, for which Rob's score received a 2006
BAFTA, RTS
Award and Ivor Novello
Award, and been cemented with an Emmy
nominated score for Longford,
written by Peter Morgan and starring Jim Broadbent and Samantha
Morton.
In 2007
Rob also received both BAFTA
and RTS nominations
for his work on the BBC's much praised Jane Eyre,
directed by Susanna White and starring Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens.
Other recent work includes Stuart, A Life Backwards,
a joint BBC and HBO one off drama by Sam Mendes' Neal Street Productions;
Marie Lloyd, the BBC biopic of the legendary
British music hall entertainer; the political thriller series Whistleblower
for Carnival Films, and the Mark Haddon scripted Coming
Down The Mountain for Tiger Aspect.
Earlier major credits include the BBC's Blackpool
for which Rob won the 2005 Ivor Novello
Award; the BBC2 series The Long Firm
and To The Ends Of The Earth, Charles
II and The Lost World (both
of which received Emmy nominations
for the music); and Jimmy McGovern's The Street
for BBC1.
Rob has just completed Gun Rush for ITV,
directed by Richard Clark and starring Timothy Spall, and is currently
working on Tess Of The D'Urbervilles for
the BBC, and Merlin for Shine Ltd/BBC
Wales.
